Donut Run?

National Donut Day gave a friend of ours an idea that we should run 27 miles to the infamous donut shop in Newton...Drubers.  She planned out this event and ask if we wanted to go and like crazy people we agreed....27 miles to go eat donuts.  REALLY?????
I was really excited-nervous to do it and even talked my brother into going.

Pre Run!!

We started out at 6:30 pm and headed south.  I made it through the edge of town and to the road that headed strait to the donuts.....which was about 2 or 3 miles and I already thought I was dying :)  It was so hot that evening and not a lot of wind to help cool it off. This was the point I was trying to figure out what the heck I was doing and I still had 24 miles to go.
1st road sign...we were headed the right way.
1st town and Stop.....We had cars following us making sure we were ok and then stopped when we needed a break and water.

We trekked on for what seemed like forever. (Side note---after the first 3 miles I alternated walking and jogging).

Finally, we hit the next town as we continued to dodge numerous vehicles.  We got to town just as the ball game was getting out....crazy--My Pic is blurry cause I was actually jogging while taking the pic! We were half way their 13 miles.  At this point my brother was done.....(he did the 13 miles without even training. I have to say he did better than I did and I have ran a half....LOL)  After getting through the little town, my friend Jami and I decided our bodies had enough.  Ultimately I am glad I stopped....I ended up with blisters and a sore ankle the next day.  However that small competitive piece of me wanted to say I did the whole thing :) Oh well!!

So we hopped in the truck that my mom was driving and so graciously agreed to be our follow car.  We continued to cheer on the few that were making it the whole way. And of course we wanted to get in on the donut action.
About a mile outside of our destination, Jami and I decide we would bring up the home stretch with them and run that last mile to the donut shop.

And we made it. Roughly 1:30 the next morning!

Here is our group photo--little distorted......Their were 4 people who ran the full 27 miles and the rest of us did half or a little over (including our friends Grandma--she was awesome.).  Jami and I totaled 14.5 miles.  A PR distance for both us (not a PR on speed for me at all....LOL)
And finally the time had come to enjoy what we were set out to donuts.....funny thing is....I don't like donuts.....:)

What a crazy night.....never thought I would have done that.....But glad I could be a part of it.

Off to the Races

Hunter loves cars and racing (why wouldn't he when the family is crazy about Nascar) :) It just so happened that my cousin started racing sprint cars this year.  The kids were able to go watch him a couple of times.
 Some of the fam...
 He is such a goofball!
Reanna thought she needed the headphones....I assure you they didn't last long. (The cars weren't terribly loud anyways)
Go #99--Preston. The cool thing about his number is my Great Uncle (his grandpa) and our Great Grandpa also had that number when they raced.  On the top of his car he has the words "In memory of Grandpa Jim".  He would have loved watching Preston race!!
After one of the races, the kids got to go down to the pits and sit in his car.  They were beyond thrilled.

Future racer in the making....or at least he says he is! :)
The kids with Preston.  He came up in the stands to see them and then at the next race he brought them both pictures of him racing and sat with them until he had to go race again.  It was so neat for them.  According to the kids, Preston is a Nascar racer ;)

"When Pigs Fly"

A few weeks ago a couple of coworkers TOLD me I was going to join their tractor pedal race team at the annual When Pigs Fly BBQ event that is held at the airport.   I figured why not....It was going to be a team from my workplace and we would see how we did.  If you were 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place you received a cash prize in which we would donate to our Giving Hope Cancer fund.

Well.....some of the males in the names mentions (back row blue shirt) were getting a little on the mean side and said us women needed some males help.....long story short......we ended up competing against each other---males vs females....see the outcome below :)

The guys getting ready
They guys had to dig up some husbands and sons just to complete their husband betrayed me and joined :)
Here they are starting...half of the guys lost their footing and weren't even pedaling!!
And then the females were up!!!
We had a plan and we were sticking to it.
And it paid off.....The females won!!!  Well we actually came in 2nd to another team and the guys were 3rd.  It was funny we heard all kinds of hamstring, the gears weren't right, I slipped off the pedal.....and on and on :)
It was a victory all the way around our Cancer fund received the funds from both teams placing!!

I was greeted by one of my #1 fans....I love how no matter how good or bad you do they think you are a winner!!
Since we were already out there we enjoyed some of the other fun things to do......

One of the activities included Steve, Hunter and Reanna's first ride in the sky. They had helicopter rides and so we decided to do it.  I rode with Hunter and Steve rode with Reanna.

He wanted me to hold his hand but other than that he did great.  He looked out the windows at the tractors and planes that were on the ground.  I was amazed.

It was a neat trip for me as the last helicopter ride I took was in the Lifewatch helicopter.  This was MUCH more enjoyable!!!  And the pilot was AWESOME.
Next up Daddy and Reanna.  Steve has never flown before at all, not even in a plane.  So he was just as anxious as the kids!

 They Loved it!!!
After the helicopter ride, she rode the horse......

What a neat day.....thanks Nana for taking pics!!!
